This needed to be a game about squadrons or fleets, not individual ships, and needed its playing time compressed by about 75%.

Far too much time is wasted in meaningless chit draws, trivial weather rolls, the cycle of damage and repair for a few ships, and other relatively mindless trivia. Most of the game is mired in tedium and is, as a whole, basically an unplayable mess that manages to produce an hour or so of interest in its 8-hour-plus playtime. When a French fleet attempts a breakout, there is some excitement to be had. Denotes any game with a naval theme, such as battleship and submarine simulations, or other type of combat gameplay based on seafaring vessels. I actually quite like the combat system, which has a great feel and tends to produce the historical indecisive results while still allowing good admirals the chance of decisive victories. This is a game which is loaded with good historical flavor. Which would be fine, but the combat system is really optimized for large fleet actions, which means small skirmishes are painfully tedious to resolve. This seems like it is going to be, for the most part, populated by a fairly small number of ships who will have a go at each other from time to time. Both sides were simply recovering from the brutal winter fighting, but we still had to pick dozens of chits, make dozens of weather die rolls, which bogged the game down to a crawl we were playing for what seemed like hours with literally nothing happening, except meaningless shuttling of damaged ships around.Īnother big problem is the Caribbean area of operations. Turn after turn of tedious chit pulling with absolutely nothing happening, endless fiddling of a couple ships being damaged by storms on blockade and returning to port and being replaced. We tried to play the campaign game it got off to a great start, as the French tried to raid Ireland in winter and storms relentlessly hammered both fleets between battles. Man, GMT does some really great games, but they also churn out great-looking turkeys with somewhat alarming frequency. Great Battles of the American Civil War.

Fans of Hitman will find this pocket strategy title interesting, but not as immersive as PC titles. Occasional use of sniper rifles and silverballers to kill enemies add more fun to the board game. You will also have a chance to snag a disguise of two, which will help Agent 47 blend with the guards. There will be guard pieces patrolling an area, which can be taken care of by sneaking up on them and eliminating them from behind (or from the sides) or by distracting them by throwing rocks or tennis balls.Īll missions are little puzzles in themselves, and they require players to reach a target or finish a game in 10-15 turns or less. In every mission, you will be moving Agent 47 from one point to another without being spotted. Hitman Go’s board game style, the visuals and unique gameplay mechanics is brilliant to say the least. Mini Motorways is a simplistic strategy game that revolves around players. However, the gamble to infuse chess-like gameplay style into the traditional sneak-and-kill mechanics has paid off surprisingly well. I am a big fan of all Hitman games, but was a bit baffled when I heard that developers Square Enix Montreal decided to launch a mobile strategy title. If you like to add some steam to your game collection, play Crimson, because it is it is by far the best naval strategy game for the mobile platform.

You can easily distinguish your ships from the enemy ships and use their abilities to win battles.

The full-scale pirate battle looks great from a birds-eye view, giving you full control of your fleet. It relies on several factors, such as speed, the number of crew members on a pirate ship and additional units, such as air balloons, which give additional assault support to defeat enemy pirate ships. The game's gripping story slowly unfolds as the virtual "torn" pages of a journal explain the story bit by bit.Ĭrimson: Steam Pirates’ strategy is not limited to turn-based combat. Players can explore islands, embark on a treasure-hunting journey and battle rival pirate ships and zeppelins. This visually-enticing game looks like a slick graphic novel, but ends up as an engaging TBS title. Crimson: Steam Pirates teleports players to the world of pirate ships. Developers Bungie Aerospace has made my dreams come true. One of my dream themes for a TBS game was naval combat/pirate battles.
